DUBLIN: Revenue officers working at Dublin Port seized almost 800 litres of wine with a value of €11,000. The discovery was made during a routine customs check, when officers stopped and searched a Transit van that had arrived into the capital on a ferry from France via Holyhead. Officers found 786 litres of red and white wines, which would have represented an estimated potential loss to the Exchequer of €5,400.
The seizure was made as part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of alcohol in the shadow economy. In a statement, Revenue officials said that investigations into the seizure are ongoing, and have urged anyone with further information to contact the Revenue’s Confidential Freephone on 1800 295 285.
