AMSTERDAM: Tax is currently the biggest component of domestic energy bills in the Netherlands and is set to increase even more within the next three years, according to comparison website pricewise.nl.
The website says Dutch households currently pay an average of €60 in a special tax to fund sustainable energy development. However, by 2020, the ODA levy will have gone up to over €200 a year, the website said. Introduced in 2013, the levy is used to subsidise offshore wind farms and other sources of green energy.
Pricewise said the annual levy was below €10 four years ago. Pricewise says just 35% of domestic energy bills is due to the actual cost of gas and electricity. Some 45% of the average bill is tax and 20% goes to energy transport companies.
