Customs Intelligence again detects tax evasion, mis-declaration allegedly by M/s PTCL

ISLAMABAD: This is the third time that M/s Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has been allegedly apprehended by the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi at AFU of Islamabad Airport in a case of mis-declaration and duty and tax evasion on import of goods worth Rs 8.244 million.

According to the details, Directorate of Customs I&I has seized the imported goods, 64 Ports VDSL-2 Combo line card with G. Vector 200 numbers while 300 number cards were already cleared vide GD No. 10699 on 26th January 2017. As per original description M/s PTCL had imported 64 Ports VDSL-2 Combo line Card with G. Vector but with the connivance of clearing agent M/s RIL Logistics (Private) Limited 129/E-1 Main Boulevard Gullberg-II Lahore PTCL mis-declared the Description and showed it supply of 600 MSAGS with VDSL+ solution on turnkey basis, (Power Supply and Distribution 64 Port VDSL-2 Combo Line card with Vector). M/S PTCL has paid duty and taxes amount Rs 14,229,102. But the actual duty and taxes amount was Rs 22,473,210.

Thus, M/s PTCL has evaded total amount Rs 8,244,108 by mis-declaration. According to the breakthrough M/s PTCL evaded 11% customs duty Rs6,678,905/- of 17 % sales tax amount Rs1,135,415 and 5.5 % withholding tax (WHT) amounting Rs429,788.

It is pertinent to mention here that M/s PTCL already facing cases of mis-declaration and tax evasion.

After privatization of the PTCL, this is the third time when Customs Intelligence and investigation has unearthed the fraud of mis-declaration and tax evasion.
