Customs Appellate Tribunal reserves verdict on petition filed by M/s Warid Telecom last week

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal has reserved the decision on a petition filed by M/s Warid Telecom (Private) Limited and adjourned the hearing of three other cases filed by M/s Lucky Enterprises, Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain during recent week of February.

M/s Warid Telecom (Private) Limited had challenged an announcement made by the Model Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad. Members Tribunal, Syed Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Nasir Khan, heard the matter.

The bench reserved decision on the matter as it had directed the counsels to conclude hearing on the day. The counsels had also submitted relating documents.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited had filed the case against Model Coollectorate of Customs, Islamabad in 2016.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited, through the petition, had challenged a decision announced by department’s adjudication for sustaining claims of recoverable customs duty of around Rs 40 million.

Customs Appellate Tribunal’s Single Bench comprising of Member, Syed Muhammad Anwar heard the cases of M/S Lucky Enterprises, Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain. All of these cases had been filed during 2016.

M/s Lucky Enterprises had had filed the case against MCC. It had challenged a customs duty assessment sustained by the adjudication.

Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain had filed cases regarding release of vehicles which were seized by customs authorities amid attempt to smuggling various items.

They had filed cases against customs intelligence and investigation, Islamabad. The bench adjourned hearing of these cases till next week.

The appellants had challenged department’s adjudication decision before the bench through the said cases. Adjudication had maintained charges against appellants during departmental hearings.

During previous hearing, the bench had adjourned haring of said cases due to absence of responding counsels from the tribunal.
