PCA serves audit observations on M/s Colgate for alleged revenue evasion of Rs 98.67m

KARACHI: The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit Karachi has served the audit observations on M/s Colgate Palmolive Pakistan Limited underlining the evasion of revenue of Rs 98.67million on the import of certain consignments of toothbrushes.

During the scrutiny of import data related to the imports of tooth brushes under the PCT 9603.2100, it has been found that M/s Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) Limited, with an active connivance of their Clearing Agents M/s Qazi Anwar-ul-Islam & Co, imported various consignments of “Colgate brand toothbrushes” under the PCT Heading 9603.2100 and cleared the subject goods at lower values than the values determined vide valuation database letter no 32 issued by the Directorate General of Customs Valuation.

Directorate observed that company is deliberately clearing subject goods at lower values with mala fide intention to deprive the government exchequer of its legitimate revenue. It is evident that M/s Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) Limited intentionally got their consignments cleared at lower values, evaded duty/taxes of Rs98.67million. Therefore M/s Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) Limited are required to pay the abovementioned short-paid duty/taxes.
