ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad confiscated 9000 kilogram of Indian cumin seeds valued Rs6.00million. The said smuggled goods, being carried in three Bedford trucks, were intercepted at Ghora Gali (Murree). The accomplices of smugglers also tried to snatch the seized goods from the customs staff on the way to state ware house but they diverted their route from Murree to Bara Kahu and transported the consignment safely to state ware house.
According to details told by newly appointed Assistant Collector Preventive Majid Hussain Gaad that the action was very complicated and it was the biggest seizure intercepted during the month of February FY2016-17.
He told Customs Today that in pursuance of a tip-off provided by Collector Dr. Arslan, the ASO team intercepted three Bedford trucks with registration Nos: MDXA-082, GLT-6964 and GLT-1774 which were coming from Mirpur (Azad Kashmir).
The possessor could not provide any legal documents regarding the possession and transportation of the smuggled item, so the ASO team seized the consignment but freed the trucks as the drivers showed the complete documentations. The seizure was taken under the Customs Act-1969.
The ASO registered a case against the accused and forwarded it to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. The team took part in the seizure comprised Deputy Superintendent Matloob Hussain Shah and Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel along with other supporting staff.
