Customs Court accepts interim challan against two suspects involved in duties, tax evasion case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has accepted interim challan against Khurram Inayat Hamirani, representative of M/s Pak Armoring (Private) Limited and Muhammad Meommer Junaid who were booked in a duties and tax evasion case of Rs 2.5 million.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Samad Hassan Khan submitted the interim challan and informed the court that both the suspects were involved in mis-declaration and fiscal fraud which they allegedly committed by submitting fake commercial invoices of $15,895.80 instead of $57,575.

He further submitted that prosecution has found sufficient evidences against them, and that one of the suspects, Khurram Inayat Hamirani, was on interim bail. However, the other suspect, Muhammad Meommer Junaid was still absconder.

After his arguments, the court accepted interim challan and directed him to complete the investigations and submit final challan. The court also issued non-bailable warrants for the absconding suspect.

Names of Syed Zahid Ali, representative of Summit Bank, Miraj Alvi, Senior Investigation Officer, Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Muhammad Aslam Nadeem, Intelligence Officer, Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR (Customs Enforcement), Muhammad Iqbal, Naveed Farooqui and Samad Hassan Khan were mentioned in the interim challan as witnesses in the this case.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against the suspects under section 32 (I) (2) 32A, read with section 79 punishable under clauses (14) & (14A) of section 156 (1) of the Customs Act 1969 read with section 3, 4, 6, 7A and 34 of Sales Tax Act, 1990 further read with section of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
