January trade surplus was attributed to an 8.8% on-year growth in exports at $17.09 billion, compared with a 6.2% growth in December, and a 5.17% year-on-year import growth to $16.27 billion–decelerating from a 10.3% rise in the preceding month.

The ministry said Thailand’s trade grew further on the back of rising oil prices, which benefited the oil-related shipments.

Thailand’s exports are forecast to grow 5.0% in 2017.
