SHC to hear petition filed by M/S Continental Sweets, Bakers during 3rd week of March

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has adjourned the hearing of a constitutional petition filed by M/s Continental Sweets, Bakers, Nimco against seizing of its documents and equipment by the officials of the commissioner Inland Revenue, Zone-III.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Muhammad Arshad Khan, was hearing the petition. During the hearing, at joint request of learned counsels of the two parties, the court adjourned the hearing for third week of March.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner argued that officials of the commissioner Inland Revenue, Zone-III raided premises of the petitioner at Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, on December 22, 2016 and forcibly taken away documents files, computers, electronic weighting scales without any explanation.

Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Chief Collector Inland Revenue, Regional Tax Office-III, the commissioner Inland Revenue, Zone-III and deputy commissioner Inland Revenue-III and others as respondents, the petitioner pleaded the court to declare the act of the respondents as illegal, mala fide and arbitrary and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner.
