KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue-FBR has given a “green signal” to the Pakistan Customs in order to establish a “Directorate of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor-CPEC” formally, it is learnt here.
The sources informed Customs Today that the Chairman FBR Dr Muhammad Irshad has conducted two separate meetings with the of Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Interior in order to initiate working on formation of CPEC Directorate.
During the meeting, it was decided that the federal government would start working on the formation of Directorate of CPEC by the month of May adding that the authorities concerned would also convene several meetings before May 2017.
The sources informed this scribe that the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Interior have assured their full support and cooperation towards the FBR in connection with formation of CPEC Directorate.
It is pertinent to mention here that the former Chief Collector-Enforcement South Muhammad Zahid Khokhar has forwarded a proposal to the FBR Headquarters recommended the formation of the Directorate of CPEC for safe importation of consignments via CPEC route.
The former Chief Collector Enforcement South Muhammad Zahid Khokhar had written a letter to the FBR in the month of February and after that the FBR high-ups have formally taken up the matter before the federal government.
The project has now formally initiated and it will be a matter if time that the Directorate of CPEC would be established before activation of CPEC route.
