Several items seized in grand anti-smuggling operation in Balochistan

QUETTA: Under the supervision of Shaukat Ali, Director-General Customs Intelligence, a grand operation against smuggling has been launched in Balochistan.

Irfan-ur-Rehman, Director Customs Intelligence Balochistan, has shown outstanding performance and made record seizures of Rs250.773million during February 2017. The Customs Intelligence Quetta seized 386,000 litres of HSD smuggled diesel, 27 NDP luxury vehicles, 70,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes, 696 kg hashish, 14,150 yards smuggled cloths, 588 tyres, 290 blankets, 15,000 kg auto-parts, 237,500 pouches of Gutka (Pan Prag), LED TVs and other miscellaneous goods. The goods will be auctioned off and customs duties and taxes will be deposited into the government exchequer.

Recently, Customs Intelligence raided the Quetta-Chaman Railway train and foiled an attempt to smuggle goods on train from Chaman to Quetta. The train was intercepted at the main Railway station Quetta and goods worth more than Rs10million, including tyres, cosmetics, toiletries, cigarettes, pan prag and spare-parts, were confiscated with the assistance of senior railway officers. Junior railways staff was also suspended on the suspicion of their involvement in the trafficking by the DTO Railways Quetta and an inquiry has been also ordered. As a result of the raid, smuggling on train has stopped now.
