Customs I&I recovers smuggled goods worth Rs 2,210.6m from Oct 2016 to Feb 2017

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Enforcement shown tremendous performance, breaking all the previous records.

According to the details, Pakistan Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Enforcement, the main organizations responsible for curb smuggling and under invoicing as well as busting the culprits involved in heinous crimes, have played a vital role in generating the revenue of the country.

In a remarkable performance, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has recovered valuables worth Rs 2,210.60 million from October 2016 to February 2017 across the country. It shows 25.68 percent increase in recovery as compared to the period from October 2015 to February 2016.

The data received to Customs Today shows that Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) during the same period from October 2016 to February 2017 have detected duty and tax evasion cases of Rs 4,985.96 million as compare to Rs 332.08 million from October 2015 to February 2016 resulting 1401.4 percent increase.

The data also shows that an extensive anti-narcotics campaign is underway as 100 kilogram heroin, 2, 561 kilogram charas and 12 kilogram opium have been seized in different raids during the last five month. From October 2015 to February 2016, six kilogram heroin, 1,153.5 kilogram charas and 8 kilogram opium were recovered.

Valuable goods as well as contraband items including different kinds of drugs and under invoicing worth more than 360.89 million rupees have been recovered which is an increase if 66.01 per cent during the last five months as compare to the period from October 2015 to February 2016 estimating Rs217.39 million.
