ASO seizes millions of rupees illegal cigarettes, Vitz car

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization has seized million of rupees Toyota Vitz and 51 cartons of foreign origin cigarettes, official sources told Customs Today.

The sources said that upon receipt of information the anti vehicle smuggling squad of ASO Lahore intercepted and detained a foreign origin Toyota Vitz of latest model on suspicion of being smuggled into the country after evading duties and taxes.

The value of the vehicle is estimated to be about Rs1 million including duty and taxes worth Rs 6 million. The vehicle was being plyed on the city roads when it was intercepted by the customs officials

In another similar activity,  an information was received regarding movement of a huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled cigarettes upon which a special squad was formed under the supervision of Superintendent Customs ASO and a vehicle bearing registration no LEI 3781 was intercepted near Sabzazar, Lahore by the ASO officials, it was reported.

The sources said that upon examination 51 cartons (around 500,000) sticks of foreign origin cigarettes were recovered.

Both the vehicle and cigarettes have been seized and further investigations in the matter is underway they added, saying that the value of the cigarettes is around Rs1 million.

The sources said that the ASO on strict instruction by Member Customs Muhammd Zahid Khokhar has intensified raids on the smugglers safe heavns and conduct operation to minimize the menace
