FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has recovered smuggled items worth Rs19.1millions during February 2017.
Sources informed Customs Today that additional Collector (ADC) Saeed Asad formed several teams to foil smuggling attempts. These teams conducted various raids under the supervision of Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan which also included supervision of Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspector Khalid Ashraf Noor, Sepoys Mehmood Ahmed Dogar, Ali Zahid, Drivers Muhammad Khalid Dogar and Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Shah Zaib.
The ASO team successfully seized non-duty paid vehicles, F/O cloths, auto-parts, miscellaneous items and other vehicles being used for smuggling transportation and were brought into the country without payments of customs duty and taxes.
During said period, the team seized five vehicles valued Rs4.4million under Section (U/S 157) used for smuggling and also confiscated non-duty paid other five vehicles worth Rs3.1million under Section (U/S 16 NDP), foreign origin (F/O), 2,540-kg cloths worth Rs1.2million, auto-parts 230-kg worth Rs188700 and miscellaneous items 24,741-kg valued Rs18million.
Sources said the accused failed to produce any legal documents regarding the possession of vehicles and items. Now ASO authorities forwarded cases of seizures to customs adjudication.
