Customs court grants bail to suspect booked in smuggling of mobiles

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi granted an interim pre-arrest bail to accused named Mumtaz Ali S/o Mir Feroze Khan Lehri, owner of the seized Toyota Hilux Surf Jeep, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle/non-duty paid contraband 2460 mobile phones.

During the hearing, counsel for the applicant/accused filed an application for interim pre-arrest bail and argued that applicant/accused is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case as he is ready to face trial, however his client has apprehension of arrest therefore court may grant him bail till the final decision of this case.

After the hearing, the court granted him bail and observed in its order that “Without touching the merits of the case, an interim pre-arrest bail is granted to the said accused subject to furnish surety in the sum of Rs. 100000 with P.R bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of this court.

The customs court also issued a notice to the special prosecutor for customs department and calls police papers and directed the above named accused to join the investigation if and when required by the investigation officer and appear before the court on the next date of hearing.
