Customs Intelligence impounds worth Rs102.9m goods & vehicles in February

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Peshawar made some big seizures valued Rs102.9million. The I&I Peshawar registered 41 cases of offending vehicles (vehicles used for smuggling), non-duty paid vehicles and various kinds of smuggled goods and hashish during February of Financial Year (FY)2016-17.

According to Director I&I Peshawar Muhammad Saleem while talking to Customs Today, the performance had been outstanding during said period.

The director said the Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of I&I impounded nine offending vehicles during above said period. The said seizures were intercepted at different locations of KP. The total worth of above said nine offending vehicles was estimated Rs11.1million.

The Customs Car Cell of I&I Peshawar impounded 13 NDP vehicles which had fake documentation whereas FIRs had also been lodged against the culprits and investigations were underway with the I&P department. The total value of the NDP vehicles was Rs16.5million.

Director Muhammad Saleem stated that ASO of I&I made several seizures of smuggled goods during February FY2016-17 as the ASO lodged 19 cases against smugglers involved in trafficking. The directorate of I&I collected Rs72.4million from the said seizures. Most consignments of smuggled goods comprise black tea, tyres and tubes and auto-parts.

During above said period, the ASO of Directorate of I&I Peshawar seized 49 kilogram of hashish valued Rs2.9million.
