FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized non duty paid tyres worth Rs725,000 involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs407,834.
According to sources, the customs staff after receiving credible information raided godown of M/s Pak Hakeem and Company. During raid Customs Intelligence team found 20 tyres, Green Dragon brand made in China. These tyres were being transported from Lahore to Faisalabad. The team asked Muhammad Ilyas (manager of the bus stand) to produce legal documents regarding possession of tyres. He produced bilty number 5639 dated 4-02-2017 issued by M/s Pak Hakeem and Company Goods Transport Agency (Regd) Karachi. However, he failed to show any documentary evidence showing legal import or lawful possession of the recovered tyres.
Therefore, the customs teams seized the tyres under Section 2(s) of the Customs Act.1969 and a served notice to accused person.
The customs team comprising Superintendent Zahid Raza Bukhari, Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Saddique, Muhammad Saleem and Sepoys Liaqat Ali, Mussadaq Ahmed, Israr Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed and Havaldar Muhammad Iqbal take part in raid.
After passage of considerable time, no proof of its legal import and lawful possession was produced. Later, the Customs Intelligence submitted the seizure report to customs Adjudication department for further proceedings.
