PESHAWAR: The European Union (EU) has welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for reopening the Torkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan to facilitate the Pak-Afghan Trade Transit Agreement.
Pakistan and Afghanistan share huge volume of transit and trade activities as there is no shipment available in Afghanistan to stream a trade line with regional and international countries like China, Europe, America, Dubai and several other multinational exporters in the world.
The statement by EU on Tuesday about the reopening of trade activities between Pakistan and Afghanistan appreciated the decision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in good gestures.
A large section of Afghanistan’s trade is carried out using Qasim Port of Karachi from where goods are transported by cargo laden containers to Peshawar.
The Qasim Port serves as the closest seaport to facilitate the trade activities of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
There are almost 30 dry port stations on this rout which facilitate the trade to Afghanistan and Rs millions are collected by Customs Collectorate Peshawar from these dry ports. There are agencies in numbers who offer services for door delivery inside Afghanistan and perform customs clearance.

Now there is a need to inform the international trade communities to exert pressure on Afghanistan for not letting its soil use by criminal activists against Pakistan.
