SHC suspends notices for recovery of income support levy on over 40 petitions

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) suspended the impugned demand notices for recovery of income support levy on more than 40 constitutional petitions filed by Attaullah, Muhammad Ibrahim, Muhammad Iqbal Rajput, Ikramullah, Riaz Ahmed, Zulfqar Ahmed, Naveed Riaz, Mian Muhammad Hanif, Dileep Kumar, Saqib Riaz, Asif Riaz, Ali Ahmed, Muhammad Ahmed, Muhammad Usman, Bihari Lal, Shahzad Riaz, Iqbal Gulam Hussain, Maimoona Zakaria Bawany and others.

While hearing of these petitions, a two-member bench, comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Muhammad Arshad Hussain, also issued notices to the Tax Department and Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan directing them to file their respective para-wise comments on next date of hearing.

The SHC also directed the office to file these petitions along with other connected petitions on next date of hearing.

Earlier, citing Secretary to Ministry of Law, Commissioner Inland Revenue Zone-II, Large Taxpayers Unit, Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue E&C Unit-I, Zone-II Large Taxpayers Unit as respondents, counsel for the petitioners pleaded with the court to set aside the impugned notices for recovery of income support levy.
