The importers’ delegation informed the collector that they are facing issues in clearance of their consignments at Qasim International Containers’ Terminal (QICT), as due to the lethargic approach of the examiners, the consignments are being delayed on regular basis and it will increase the “cost of doing business” as the importers have to pay demurrage and detention cost as extra payment due to delay in the clearance process.

The importers further said that the assessment of the consignments in different groups is also not being up to the mark and the assessment officers and examination officers are adopting delaying tactics for clearance of the consignments.

They were of the view that the dual time in clearance process should be eliminated while the Collectorate officials should ensure “zero pendency” at the terminal on daily basis.

Collector Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, Saeed Akram noted all the grievances of the importers and also assured them their issues would be resolved on priority basis.

The Collector Saeed Akram said that the importers’ community should discourage the practice of giving “speed money” to the customs officials as it spreads corruption in the department.

He assured the importers’ delegation that their issues would also be discussed the relevant officers of the collectorate and soon their issues would be redressed.
