Customs Court grants bail to owners of no-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim pre-arrest bail to suspects, Manthar Ali and Mazhar Ali Magasi who were booked in a case of non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus V8 jeep Model 2003 and evasion of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 11,127,507.

The court also issued notices to special prosecutor of the Customs Department and called police papers for March 27, 2017. The court directed the suspects to appear before the court on the next date of hearing for conformation of their bail.

During the hearing, counsel for the accused filed applications for bail. After their arguments, the court granted them interim pre-arrest bails against the surety of Rs 200, 000 each.

According to the prosecution, officials of the tax department intercepted a tampered non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus V8 jeep registration no BF-1318 model 2003 which was parked at Zam Zama Street no 4 DHA, Phase V, Karachi.

A case was registered against them undere section 2 (s) and 178 of Customs Act 1969 punishable under clauses (8) & (89) of section 156 (i) ibid.
