ASO impounds vehicles & goods valued Rs39.6m in first 13 days of March

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar seized contraband goods and Non-Duty-Paid (NDP) offending vehicles (used for carrying smuggled goods) valued Rs39.6million during 13 initial days of March of Financial Year 2016-17.

According to MCC Peshawar that during 1st of March to 13th, the performance of all the customs stations including Kohat, Torkham and MCC Peshawar has been satisfactory.

During above said period, the ASO impounded 10 offending vehicles worth Rs12.00million whereas the Car Cell of the ASO impounded 12 NDP vehicles worth Rs13.5million. The ASO also seized various kinds of contraband items valued Rs14.1million.

During the first seven months (July to January FY16-17), the ASO seized 144.05 kilogram hashish valued Rs14.05million out of which 4.6 kilogram hashish priced Rs0.23million was seized during the month of January, according to sources.

He told Customs Today that from July to January, the ASO seized 38.7 kilogram opium worth Rs7.35million out of which 32 kilogram valued Rs6.40million was seized in the month of January. The ASO seized 12 kilogram heroin worth Rs30million during the month of January.

During the month of January, the ASO seized 48.6 kilogram of narcotics worth Rs36.63million whereas the total narcotics, seized during the first seven months, was 1947.05 kilogram which valued Rs51.40 million in the international market.

The ASO is utilizing its maximum capacity to curb smuggling attempts across and inside the border. Sources said many development works for ASO are underway including building of separate offices for ASO staff so that they can acquit themselves well.
