Sindh Excise impounds 116 vehicles during campaign against tax defaulters

KARACHI: Sindh Excise and Taxation Department impounded 116 vehicles and seized documents of other 373 vehicles in an ongoing province wide campaign against motor-vehicle tax defaulters, officials said here Wednesday.

The campaign launched on Monday on the directives of provincial minister for excise taxation and narcotics control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla was said to continue till March 31.

Eleven inspection teams were said to have been constituted only for Karachi to nab the defaulters and ensure that they may necessarily pay their relevant tax.

As per directives of the Minister, concerned officials are also taking action against owners and drivers of Qinqi Rickshaws, Auto Rickshaws and other vehicles plying without number plates, with fake or fancy number plates or holding temporary registration or expired registration papers.

Vehicle owners, themselves have also been reminded not to use “Personalized Number Plates” as these have already been canceled.  The Excise and Taxation Minister, Mukesh Kumar Chawla has urged the local vehicles owners to deposit their tax, at any of the designated branches of National Bank of Pakistan, so as to avoid any inconvenience.

Concerned officials sharing data with media said during past two days 1583 vehicles were checked in Karachi, 593 in Hyderabad, 227 in Sukkur, 234 in Larkana, 285 in Mirpurkhas and 217 in Shaheed Benazirabad.
