KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has decided to abolish port congestion charges and ordered shipping lines and carriers to immediately withdraw the fee.
The shipping lines and carriers were charging $150 per 20 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) and $300 per 40 TEU as port congestion from March 2017.
After raising the issue by the All Pakistan Shipping Association (ASPA) and its other allies, including Karachi International Container Terminal Ltd (KICTL), Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association (PIFFA) and Shipping Lines (OOCL, APL & CMA CGM), the Model Customs Collector (Preventive) Licensing Branch convened meetings the stakeholders and decided to withdraw the charges
