FAISALABAD: Model Customs Collectorate ( MCC) Faisalabad’s Assistant Collector Samad Hamdani is paying special attention to boost the Air Freight Unit (AFU) activities in order to make the region well protected from smuggling at the Faisalabad International Airport.
This was stated by Faisalabad Customs Assistant Collector (AC) Samad Hamdani during an interview with Customs Today. He said we are always busy in motivating and preparing Air Freight Unit (AFU) officers to obtain maximum results.
He said to serve in this department is really a privilege and honor. He termed the staff of the department ‘guardians of the economic borders of Pakistan’. Although I have recently been posted here yet I have ensured a check-and-balance at the Faisalabad International Airport. The flow of export has become smoother. And we also focus on General Post Office (GPO) to efficiently deliver and receive goods as soon as possible. To initiate cargo service at the Faisalabad Airport, there is a need install the latest gadgets and machinery to check the import and export consignments.
He also stressed the need for improving Customs Duty and tax collection by constantly updating the tariffs and comparative studies of the international customs systems in place. So far the Faisalabad collectorate is meeting the annual financial targets set by the government.
The application of cess tax has reduced. He added that effective strategies are being designed to improve the performance of the customs department which is already performing beyond its capacity. However there is a lack of manpower which should be addressed as early as possible. The Faisalabad collectorate is doing its utmost best to facilitate the businessmen to solve their problems.
The assistant collector, sharing complaints of business community, says the Customs Department is serving well. He said if any official is found involved in corrupt activities in Faisalabad collectorate, he will not be tolerated and strict actions have always been taken against such elements. He said I try my best to improve revenue by ensuring implementation of law in letter and spirit. I also try my best to maintain a sense of equality while dealing with the businessmen regarding the financial matters. At last he conveyed a message of hard-work and bringing about a change in everybody’s sphere. He warned the AFU officials to improve their performance otherwise they will be transferred to other regions to gain better results.
