IHC rejects Ayyan’s appeal against fine imposed by Customs court

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed model Ayyan Ali’s appeal against fine imposed by Customs collector (Adjudication) in the $500,000 currency smuggling case.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah conducted hearing of the petition. During the hearing of the appeal advocate Chaudhary Muhammad Nawaz was present on behalf of Customs Department, while Ayyan’s counsel was not present. The court was informed that Ayyan’s appeal has already been dismissed by the Customs Appellate Court.

Justice Athar Minallah dismissed the appeal due to non-presence of Ayyan’s counsel. Ayyan had moved the petition through her counsel Sardar Lateef Khosa and adopted that the fine was imposed without providing her an opportunity of hearing.
