Jhang ASO recovers smuggled toys worth Rs551730

FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Jhang has seized no-duty-paid foreign origin plastic toys. The market value of seized items is Rs551730 involving duty and taxes of Rs119541.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Muhammad Sadiq received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of items. The collector constituted a special team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Ali Zahid, Mehmood Ahmed Dogar, Dilawar Hussain, Liaqat Ali, Zulfikar Ali Awan and Muhammad Arshad.

The ASO team intercepted a vehicle with registration No: GLTB-3577 near Bypass Toba Road Jhang. The vehicle was loaded with foreign origin (F/O), plastic toys ( 57-bundles) of China made. The ASO seized all the toys under Section 2(s) read with SRO 566(1)/2005 and Sections 16, 18 of the Customs Act-1969 with Section 3 of Sales Tax Act-1990, Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001.

The consignment was being transported from Karachi to Lahore. The team asked the driver to produce legal documents regarding the possession and transportation of loaded goods but he failed to prove anything.

The Anti-Smuggling Organization, after registering a case of smuggling against accused, forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceedings.
