LAHORE: Pakistan has started the import of Indian tomatoes through Land Freight Unit Wagha in view of the rising demand of tomatoes in the local market of Pakistan, especially Punjab.
According to official sources of Customs Today at Wagha customs, Pakistan has decided to import tomatoes from India as its rate is increasing in the local markets. Rate of tomatoes had reached Rs 200 per kg. Due to increase in demand and low production of crop, Pakistan decided to import tomatoes from India to meet the demand.
About of 20 to 25 trucks are crossing the border on daily basis. Some more truckloads of tomatoes will also come to Pakistan as the month of Ramadan is nearing.
After the start of import of tomatoes, Pakistan customs will also earn more duty and taxes.
Pakistani importers are still disallowed to import Indian garlic and ginger as they were found harmful to human health and they were also washed with poisonous chemicals.
