Customs staff seizes 44 smart phones from passenger at Islamabad airport

ISLAMABAD: The Deputy Collector Customs at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad seized 44 smart phones worth Rs 0.5 million from a passenger on Monday.
According to Deputy Collector BBI Naghma-e-Tehenat, a passenger, coming from China by Flight No: CF6-337, was caught during the checking with the mobile phones. The passenger was trying to cross the scanner tactfully but the well experienced customs staff asked the passenger to show the baggage.
When the customs staff opened the baggage of passenger named Muhammad Rasheed, they found 44 costly mobile phones concealed tactfully under the baggage.
An FIR has been lodged against him and a case has been forwarded to Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department for further action.

The deputy collector told Customs Today that the airport customs staff seized 3,300 smart mobile phones worth Rs 40.00 million from July to 10th April 2016-17 whereas the airport staff seized 3,291 mobiles worth Rs 66 million during the same period of corresponding financial year 2015-16.
