OTTAWA: Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Financials and IT sectors led shares lower. At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.02%. The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hudson’s Bay Company (TO:HBC), which rose 7.99% or 0.88 points to trade at 11.89 at the close. Meanwhile, New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) added 7.20% or 0.290 points to end at 4.320 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 6.76% or 0.150 points to 2.370 in late trade. The worst performers of the session were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which fell 5.34% or 0.580 points to trade at 10.290 at the close. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) declined 3.24% or 0.070 points to end at 2.090 and TFI International Inc (TO:TFII) was down 3.00% or 0.93 points to 30.02. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 571 to 567 and 142 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.60% to 13.01. Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.73% or 21.65 to $1275.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.43% or 0.23 to hit $53.31 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.14 to trade at $56.12 a barrel. CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7503, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.7073. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 100.62.
