They placed the demand during a pre-budget consultation with National Board of Revenue (NBR) at its Segunbagicha office here.

NBR member Parvez Iqbal presided over the meeting and leaders of Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indo-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dhaka Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry took part in the discussion.

During the meeting the chamber leaders demanded slashing the rate of corporate tax and increasing the tax-free income limit of officers-employees in the private sector.

FICCI president Rupali Haque Chowdhury said frequent change in tax and customs related policies hampers business, investment and industrialization.

A revenue related policy should be maintained at least for five years so that businesses can frame their future investment plan and programmes, she added.

Selima Ahmad proposed increasing the tax free income limit for women to Tk 400,000 from the existing limit of Tk 300,000 in the next budget.
