SHC orders Customs to release baby diaper consignment

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered Customs authorities to release consignment of baby diapers.

The SHC appellate bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Arshad Hussain Khan, issued order while hearing a constitutional petition regarding imposition of Customs value on higher side.

During the hearing, Talal Tariq Khursheed advocate of Franklin Law Associates represented importer Spectrum Enterprises. The counsel referred to the order passed by SHC bench in Constitution Petition (CP) 4790/2016 and submitted that issue in question is identical to one raised in dozens of petitions which are pending adjudication by the same bench.

The counsel prayed that the consignment, subject matter of this petition could be released provisionally as per terms of the order passed in earlier petition wherein importers were asked to deposit the differential amount between declared and assessed value is deposited with the Nazir of SHC.
