Six ships take berth at Port Qasim

KARACHI: Six ships Maersk Kinloss, MSC Algeciras, Orient Rise, Tiamat Gas, Silver Zoe and Desert Rose carrying containers, Coal, LPG, Soya Bean and Furnace oil were arranged berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-1), SSGC LPG Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Tuesday.

Meanwhile five more ships Maersk Salina, Asia Emerald-II, Umm Bab, Bneider and Gas Ethereal with Containers, Coal, LNG, Diesel oil and Chemicals also arrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim (PQ) during last 24 hours.

Berth occupancy was reported at the port at 67% on Tuesday where a total of ten ships namely, UASC Bubiyan, Maersk Kinloss, MSC Algeciras, Da De, Orient Rise, Iris-II, Navig-8 Stellar, Tiamat Gas, Silver Zoe and Desert Rose are currently occupying PQA berth to load/offload Containers, General Cargo, Coal, Chemicals, LPG, Soya Bean Seeds, Soya Bean Oil and Furnace Oil respectively during last 24 hours.

Cargo handling registered an upward trend at the port where a cargo volume of 149,864 tonnes, comprising 137,096 tonnes import cargo and 12,768 tonnes export cargo inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 3,119 Containers (TUEs) 2,447 imports TUEs and 672 TUEs exports) was handled at the port.

Five ships, Maersk Kinloss, Navig-8 Stellar, Tiamat Gas, Silver Zoe and Desert Rose are expected to sail on Wednesday afternoon.  Three ships C.V Maersk Salina, M.T Gas Ethereal and M.T Umm Bab carrying Containers, Chemicals and LNG are expected to take berths at Containers Terminal, Engro Terminal and Elengy Terminal respectively on Wednesday, while Bulk cargo carrier ‘Asia Emerald’ carrying 42,128 tonnes Coal is due arrive at PQ on same day and Container Vessel ‘CMA CGM Indus’ is due to arrive on Thursday and four ships C.V Tempanos, C.V Uni Florida, M.V Zhong Guo Shui Dian and M.V Clipper Tenacious with Container, Coal and Slag are due to arrive Friday.
