Hyderabad FIU seized smuggled cumin seeds valued Rs02.5m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Field Investigation Unit Hyderabad has confiscated non-duty-paid 100 pp bags weighed 02500 kg of cumin seeds (white zeera) worth Rs02.5million involving duty and taxes of Rs274617. The offending vehicle was going from Karachi to Faisalabad when the operation was carried out at a bypass in Hyderabad.

Official source told Customs Today that illegally imported goods were seized following a tip-off received through Director Customs Karachi Tahir Qureshi.

Prior to the seizure, the official asked the driver to show documents regarding the legal import and lawful possession of the recovered item but he failed to prove anything. So the official confiscated the item. Now the case will be sent to the customs adjudication.

The impounded item will be deposited into the state warehouse in Hyderabad under the supervision of Deputy Director Haroon Waqar Malik

The confiscation team comprised Customs Intelligence Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Inspector Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Musrat Ali Shah, Sikander Malah, Noshad Khan, Azam Ali Chandio, Muhammad Imran, Moin Khan, Ghayas Ahmed, Janib Krub, Haneef Somroo and others.
