Customs court asks for submitting challan in powder milk smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has directed the investigation and prosecution team of customs intelligence to submit an investigation challan in a case of powder milk smuggling.

Earlier, the customs court has approved a 14-day judicial remand of the accused arrested by the customs authorities from Lahore on the charge of smuggling powder milk by showing it as plastic raw material.

Accused Zahid Rasheed was booked by the customs intelligence while he was trying to smuggle a huge quantity of powder milk of different brands. Customs intelligence, on a tip-off, intercepted a truck in the suburbs of Lahore city and found it loaded with international branded powder milk. Customs intelligence raided a warehouse and found a huge quantity of powder milk. Customs teams found 9349 bags of powder milk. Weight of the recovered powder was 232,000 kilograms.

Source told Customs Today that the worth of the recovered powder milk is Rs70millions.

A team of customs investigation presented accused Zahid Rasheed before the court of special judge in the court of customs taxation and anti smuggling and asked for remand of five days to complete investigation. After listening arguments from both sides, the customs court handed over the accused to investigation team for two days. He was presented before the court for further legal proceedings wherefrom the court has sent him to jail on judicial remand for extension of 14 days.

Customs authorities have registered a case against him under the Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
