WASHINGTON: Border Patrol agents seized more than $350,000 worth of narcotics in a triple drug bust in the span of 12 hours, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed (CBP). Agents discovered methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana Tuesday and early Wednesday at checkpoints across San Diego County. The first drug bust occurred around 2 p.m. at a checkpoint on Interstate 8 in Pine Valley. When a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to a pickup truck driven by a 27-year-old man, they found 13 bundles of crystal methamphetamine and one bundle of black tar heroin inside the truck’s air conditioning vents.
According to CBP, the drugs were valued at more than $52,000. Hours later, around 6 p.m., agents located $43,985 worth of heroin and $123,318 worth of methamphetamine hidden inside the rear seats and trunk of a Ford Focus. The 19-year-old driver, who was in the country illegally was taken into custody, CBP officials said. Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, agents seized $137,696 worth of methamphetamine at a checkpoint near San Clemente. The drugs were hidden in the cab behind the driver’s seat and the back wall of the cab of a Ford Ranger pickup truck. CBP officials said the drivers involved in the drug busts were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
