BBIA customs stays surplus from assigned target of revenue during April

ISLAMABAD: The customs staff of the Benazir Bhutto International (BBIA) Airport Islamabad surpassed its assigned target with an amount of Rs0.02million during April of Financial Year 2016-17 under the head of duty taxes on accompanied baggage. The BBI Baggage Department earned Rs2.82million against the assigned target of Rs2.80million under the same head during the same period.

According to Sadia Usman, Assistant Collector BBI airport, during April FY16-17, the BBI baggage exceeded the assigned target adding the Baggage Department of Customs almost surpassed all the previous months’ assigned targets of current Financial Year 2016-17. During April FY16-17, the Accompanied Baggage seized three cases of mobile phones from passengers carrying non-tax-paid costly phones from abroad. During April FY2016-17, the customs staff deputed at baggage side of the BBI airport Islamabad seized first smuggled phones’ consignment in numbers of 681 smart phones valued Rs7.00million.

The  Customs Baggage Staff seized 2nd consignment of smuggled smart phones which comprise 44 numbers of mobile phones valued Rs0.6million whereas the third smuggled mobile phone confiscated consignment comprises 34 smart phones. The estimated value of the seized 44 phones is Rs0.5million.
The BBI Baggage impounded 390 foreign origin bottles of liquor during April FY16-17. The value of said confiscated liquor was Rs0.78million. The customs staff of (BBI) seized contraband goods worth Rs377.72million during nine months (July to March) FY2016-17 whereas the BBI baggage customs staff did various foreign currencies of Rs15.07million and the BBI staff did Rs7.00million foreign origin currencies during corresponding FY2015-16 during the same period.
