Customs Court postpones hearings as lawyers observe black day to protest May 12, 2007 incident

KARACHI: Legal proceedings remained suspended at Customs Court, the Sindh High Court (SHC) and other subordinates courts on Friday as the lawyers boycotted courts in protest against attack on judiciary on May 12, 2007.

Therefore, the SHC postponed the hearing of more than 80 customs and income tax related cases while customs court postponed hearing of more than 15 cases.

The cases were fixed for hearing, however, before the hearing judges were informed that Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and other legal bodies have announced black day against brutal attacks on judiciary on May 2007, and the courts were requested to postpone the hearing of these cases.

On request of Sindh Bar Council, Sindh High Court (SHC), Pakistan Bar Council and other legal bodies, court adjourned the hearing of these cases after given next date of hearing.

According to the roaster, a bench was headed by Justice Munib Athar and another bench was headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi.
