Customs Court approves physical remand of suspect involved in mega tax evasion of Rs 4 billion

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a two-day physical remand of Mian Talat Mehmood, the managing director of M/s Orient Electronics, for his alleged involvement in mega tax evasion scam.

Sources told Customs Today that the managing director of the leading electronic manufacturing company, M/s Orient Electronics, was arrested by Inland Revenue Department Lahore. Sources said that he was allegedly involved in a huge tax evasion. Sources also said that the total amount of the tax evasion is Rs 4 billion which is among one of the largest tax evasion cases of Lahore.

Investigation team of FBR presented the accused before the court of special judge Masood Arshad and asked for physical remand to dig out more characters behind the mega tax evasion scam. On request Customs Court approved two days physical remand of the accused Mian Talat Mehmood.

Inland Revenue Lahore has registered a case against the accused on alleged tax evasion and fraud.  Investigations are still underway to dig out the persons behind the scam and to recover evaded taxes.

According to sources Mian Talat Mehmood has allegedly involved in huge loss to the national kitty in the wake of tax evasion.
