KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has ordered Appraisement West to submit compliance report by May 17 in a petition filed by Uniform Center.
A SHC division bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Arshad Hussain Khan, issued order in a fabric confiscation case. The petitioner company challenged the detention of fabric of Indian origin.
The counsel for petitioner submitted that it imported a consignment comprising polyster fabric and other. The Customs confiscated 2 per cent of the consignment being in category of banned item (not importable) while 3 percent was released after imposition of fine and penalty. The remaining 95 per cent of the consignment was found to be in accordance with the goods declaration (GD) was thus assessed and released.
The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that order passed on previous hearing was not complied with and un-necessary delay was being caused resulting in heavy demurrage. PICT was also not in attendance. The bench noting the fact ordered issuance of fresh notices to the PICT asked Appraisement West to submit compliance report by May 17.
