QUITO: Police in Ecuador have seized five tonnes of cocaine worth at least $US250 million from a cargo ship in the Pacific Ocean.
The interior ministry says 21 members of an international drug-trafficking ring led by a Spaniard were arrested. The ship, which had just left the port of La Libertad when it was seized, was sailing to Spain via Panama. Ecuador has seized nearly 30 tonnes of cocaine since the beginning of this year.
