Faisalabad customs seizes smuggled tyres worth Rs420000

FAISALABAD: The customs intelligence and investigation confiscated smuggled tyres valued Rs420000 involving duty and taxes of Rs 400000.

The customs staff intercepted a Hyundai Shehzore with registration No: FSL-7188 near Truck Stand, Jhang Road, Faisalabad, and recovered a foreign origin (F/O) new 14 tyres made of China. The tyres were being transported from Lahore to Faisalabad.

The team asked driver Munawar Hussain son of Ghafoor Ahmed to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items. The driver showed a GD No: 297/16 dated 03-09-2016 regarding the clearance of Kunlun brand tyres from sost station by M/s Safdar Enterprises Gilgit.

The produced GD was scrutinized and found irrelevant with the recovered goods as the brand of tyres was found different. The driver of the vehicle also failed to produce any bilty in respect of the loaded tyres so the customs team seized the goods under Section 2KK and 17 of the Customs Act-1969 and served a notice on accused.

Later, the customs intelligence submitted a seizure report to the adjudication department.
