Faisalabad customs intelligence seizes items valued Rs08.1million in first week of May

FAISALABAD: The customs intelligence and investigation confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs08.1million involving duty and taxes of Rs09million during the first week of May 2017.

The intelligence team, following the directions of Director Zulfikar Younas, conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However three cases of smuggling were registered against suspects.

The customs intelligence impounded Nissan X-Trail truck with registration No: AAN-772 (Quetta) Modelled 2010 valued Rs04.5million involving duty and taxes of Rs05.3million. The vehicle was allegedly smuggled by Muhammad Zia-ur-Rehman and others in the case.

The officials also impounded Honda Reborn No: LEC-3538 Patrol priced Rs02million involving duty and taxes of Rs02.4. The accused in this case is Hammad Akbar, a resident of Toba Tak Singh.

On the other hand, the Regional Office Faisalabad Intelligence and Investigation impounded foreign origin (F/O), Tani brand float juice (23952-Tins) made of Iran valued Rso1.7million involving duty and taxes of Rs968320. Asif Ali and Qaiser Shezad have been nominated as accused by intelligence staff in the case.

The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act-1969 after the owners failed to produce documents showing the legal import of the items.

The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Zahid Raza Bukhari, Senior Intelligence Officer Muhammad Tahir, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, and Sepoys Ajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad, participated in the raids.

Seizure reports have been submitted to the adjudication department for further legal action.
