Islamabad ASO impounds truck loaded with cumin valued Rs2.5m

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad impounded a Hino truck fully loaded with Indian origin smuggled cumin worth Rs2.5million. The truck was coming from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and impounded on GT Road, Barakahu (Islamabad).

According to Majad Hussain Gadd, Assistant Collector ASO, Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad, that on a tip-off received by Collector MCC Islamabad Dr. Arslan, the ASO formed a squad led by Customs Inspector Asif Mehmood and Arshad Butt. They set up a picket near Barakhu and intercepted the said truck. The ASO squad asked the driver to show the documents to ascertain the legal import of goods but the owner of the goods failed to do so.
After the investigation, the squad seized loaded hundreds of kilogram of Indian cumin from the truck. The total value of the seized item is estimated Rs1.5million. The ASO also impounded the offending truck that facilitated the smugglers. The value of the offending truck is Rs1.00million.
The ASO impounded the goods and a truck under smuggling act and after filing an FIR against smugglers, the case has been forward to the I&P Department for further details.
The ASO told Customs Today that the Customs Department has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards smugglers. He said the government has also directed them to foil any attempt of smuggling. He said the ASO is using all available resources to curb the smuggling attempts in the region.
