Customs court issues non-bailable warrants for suspect booked in Iranian oil smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has issued non-bailable warrants for accused Azeem S/o Zareen and Yousaf Khan Afridi booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 16,000 liter Iranian high speed diesel.

During the hearing, accused Azeem was absent without any intimation notice who was granted bail by this court, therefore, the court issued non-bailable warrants for him and also issued a notice of his surety for the next date of hearing.

Investigation officer submitted that absconder Yousaf Khan Afridi has not been arrested yet therefore court also issue the non-bailable warrant for him and direct the investigation officer to arrest and produce him before the court on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, officials of the customs authorities intercepted an oil tanker loaded with HSD oil which was smuggled from Balochistan to Karachi. After the formalities, said oil tanker was impounded and a case was registered against the driver in violation of Section 2 (s) 16,157 of the Customs Act-1969 read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Exports (Control) Act-1950 which is punishable under clauses (8) & (89) of subsection (1) read with section (2) of section 156 ibid.
