SIALKOT: A ten-hour long daily loadshedding of electricity by the Gepco will affect the working and production of 9000 industrial units located on the premises of the Small Industrial Estate Sialkot and Small Industrial Estate Ghueinki-Daska and in its outskirts.
Export of the country will also be affected due to power outage in the city. Domestic consumers are being facilitated with the exemption of loadshedding during Sehari and Iftari timings in the month of Ramazan.
According to the SMEs, loadshedding has also halted the night shift of industrial production in the abovementioned units at Sialkot which will badly affect country’s exports.
Meanwhile, the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SIMAP) and Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers, Exporters Association (PSGMEA) and Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PGMEA) have expressed grave concern over the critical situation.
They said this unavoidable and miserable situation is resulting into the termination of thousands of daily wage workers.
When contacted, the officials of the Gepco said this situation will persist till the end of the holy month of Ramazan.
