Customs Intelligence foils bid of M/s KFC to clear consignments through under-invoicing

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) foiled an attempt made by M/s Kentuckey Fried Chicken (KFC) to clear consignments through under-invoicing. The Customs I&I also recovered evaded amount of Rs 2 million from the company.

Sources told Customs Today that M/s KFC imported consignment of master beach by completely ignoring the valuation ruling no. 786. During scrutiny of import documents it was revealed the M/s KFC declared the net weight of master beach as $2.90 per kilogram instead of declaring the original weight as $4.16 per kilogram.

Sources said that due to this M/s KFC tried to cause loss of Rs2 million to the national kitty. Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigations immediately detained the consignment at Green Channel. During initial investigations it was also revealed that prior to this the same company also successfully cleared some consignments by under-invoicing.

After detecting the under-invoicing Customs Intelligence and Investigation recovered outstanding amount of taxes worth Rs2 million from M/s Kentuckey Fried Chicken (KFC).

It is necessary to mention here that Customs Intelligence and Investigation expedited their efforts to detect consignments being cleared through under-invoicing.
