Special car cell impounds NDP vehicle valued Rs3m

ISLAMABAD: Special car cell directorate general of customs intelligence and investigation, federal board of revenue Islamabad, has impounded a non-duty-paid smuggled vehicle Toyota Mark X worth over Rs3million.

Following a tip-off by an informer that a non-duty-paid smuggled car modelled 2005 with a fake registration plate No: BFP-126 Karachi is parked near Ittwaar Bazaar, Peshawar Moor sector G-9/1. Special car cell directorate of intelligence reached there and found the vehicle in the said area.

The Toyota was being driven by one Abdul Rehman, Son of Abdul Raheem, who claims the ownership of the vehicle. On demand, he produced a registration book. A per Pakistan Revenue Automation Ltd and Auction Data available with the directorate general, no import and auction entry was found against the said car therefore the car cell impounded the vehicle under Section 17 of the Customs Act-1969 for further verification of its import and auction status and payment of duty and taxes. The documents produced by the owner were verified from excise and taxation office and motor registration authority Karachi and found to be fake therefore impounding of foreign origin used Toyota Mark X has been converted into seizure under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969 being smuggled for violation of Section 2(s) and 16 of the Customs Act.
