ASO Mianwali impounds polyester woven carpets worth Rs600000

MIANWALI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Mianwali has seized foreign origin polyester woven carpets (300-kg) worth Rs600000 involving customs duty and taxes of Rs110052.

Sources informed Customs Today that an ASO team, under the supervision of Superintendent Choudhary Muhammad Sardar, thwarted many attempts of smuggling.

During a routine checking, the ASO team intercepted 40-Ft container loaded on a trailer No: JV-0386 near Sarai Mohajir Chowk, district Bhakkar, loaded with F/O polyester woven carpets (300-Kg).

The driver of the truck, identified as Qaiser Nisar son of Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Faisalabad, has supplied the truck bilties of different miscellaneous goods which were booked from truck Adda Gul-E-Pakistan Goods Transport Co Karachi. But he could not produce the legal proof of the foreign origin Iranian polyester woven carpets.

The ASO team impounded the smuggled carpet under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under Section 156(1)90 of the Customs Act-1969 read with SRO 499(1)2009 and Section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceedings.
