The meat was to be supplied to renowned hotels in Lahore
LAHORE: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) handed over 600 kilograms of flesh of dead cows and buffalos to Live Stock department of Veterinary University saving Lahoris from using the infected meat.
Sources told Customs Today that the ASO team after receiving credible information that huge quantity of drugs was to be smuggled in the city they started checking of vehicles, however, the ASO team intercepted a Shehzore truck bearing registration no: FDS/1672 and discovered huge quantity of dead flesh loaded in the truck.
The veterinary doctor of Live Stocks Department confirmed that the flesh was infected and injurious to human being’s health.
Inspector Customs Mansoor Elahi told Customs Today that the truck loaded with the infected flesh appeared from Kot Abdul Malik when ASO team was expecting a truck loaded with smuggled drugs.
The driver after seeing the ASO team turned his vehicle to Sheikhupura Road, he said, adding that the move apparently confirmed their information and they chased the truck.
The official said the ASO finally succeeded to stop the mini truck and they discovered that the truck was filled with smelly flesh instead of drugs.
He said that the ASO team contacted local police, however, they took no responsibility to take the flesh and the accused person in their custody.
Finally they contacted Livestock’s Department at the Katchari Road and handed over the flesh loaded mini truck and the accused person, Allah Rakha to the officials of the department, he said, adding that the accused told him that the flesh was of the dead cows and buffalos which were to be supplied various hotels in Lahore.
The accused also inform the ASO team that he was supplying the dead meat to renowned hotels in Lahore for a long time. Mansoor disclosed that the accused seems to be a professional infected meat supplier.
Although it was not ASO duty to go after the dead meat suppliers, his team did the job purely to save the innocent people from fatal diseases, Mansoor Elahi said.
